Great coin and viable look. I miss Concorde a lot and believe it was a wonderful addition to the British Airways fleet when it arrived in 1976 for service. Surprised that the Royal Mint has not yet acknowledged the plane but there will be plenty of upcoming anniversaries for the aircraft.
The Supersonic Concorde Silver Proof £5 Coin
On the 1st October 1969 Concorde went supersonic. Even today, 50 years on, it is still one of only two supersonic transports to have operated commercially. With a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound at Mach 2.04 (1,354 mph), it’s a true icon of the sky!
Now to commemorate this significant 50th anniversary a strictly limited Silver Proof £5 has been fully approved by Her Majesty the Queen and Buckingham Palace.
Struck from .925 Sterling Silver
Struck from .925 Sterling Silver, to the same exact UK £5 specifications, it has been finished with a pristine proof finish, the highest grade of finish found on collectable coins.
This proof finish really highlights the high level of detail on the reverse which features a Machmeter above an engraved design of Concorde. This is then encircled by engraved text which reads “50th Anniversary of the First Supersonic Flight”.
Strictly limited to just 2,019
Like Concorde, this issue is expected to move fast. That’s because an extremely limited worldwide edition of JUST 2,019 has been set. Given the huge collector interest we’ve already seen in Concorde themed commemoratives this year, if you would like to own one, you’ll need to be quick!
Your coin will arrive in a wooden display box alongside a hand numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
