The D-Day 80th Anniversary £5 Coin

This year we commemorate the historic 80th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings.

And now, to honour the nation’s heroes from that day, a brand new £5 Coin has been issued.

The design by artist, Jean-Michel Girard, features the iconic Spitfire Mk IX, HMS Warspite and Sherman Firefly Tank, all of which were used so effectively during the Normandy landings.

What makes this anniversary even more poignant, is that this is most likely the last major anniversary where the few surviving veterans are able to honour their D-Day comrades and indeed all those that gave their lives in the name of freedom.
