The Avro Lancaster PA474 Commemorative
Own a medal crafted from an AVRO LANCASTER!
Today you have the chance own the brand new Avro Lancaster Commemorative - featuring an original piece of Avro Lancaster, meticulously hand-sculpted into the shape of the iconic plane and precision set into the deluxe SUPERSIZE 70mm Medal.
But it’s the story behind the ACTUAL PLANE used for this medal that will truly amaze you…
An ACTUAL piece of an AVRO LANCASTER…
The Avro Lancaster is surely the most famous RAF heavy bomber of World War Two. The aircraft won a place for itself in history, with the daring and precise bombing raids on the Ruhr Dams, in May 1943 and with the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz, in November 1944.
Lancaster PA474 was built at the Vickers Armstrong Broughton factory at Hawarden Airfield, Chester in 1945. Following the end of the war with Japan, it spent many years in active service before joining the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – meaning you’ve probably seen it at air shows!
And now, a limited number of Avro Lancaster sculptures have been created from a piece of this very plane. The metal was recovered from the starboard outer engine housing, which was substantially replaced following an in-flight fire on 7 May 2015.
