I love it,beautifully displayed and I appreciate the history behind it.What made it even more amazing was the fact that it was flown in an actual spitfire.
Incredible piece of history celebrating a by gone era. Fantastic item fitting I. Well with collection.
This is a great historical piece that honours a fantastic plane. It is displayed with my grandfather's WWI RAF aviator's certificate and his war service badge for submarine patrol service. He was a 2nd lieutenant in the RAF.
Very high quality product and presentation. Exactly if not better then described. Love it.
RAF Centenary Spitfire Flown Cover
The RAF Centenary UK Stamp and Coin Cover flown in an actual Spitfire!
On 16 May, the complete edition of JUST 1,000 RAF Centenary UK stamp and coin covers were driven up to Headcorn Aerodrome, Kent, to be flown in a Spitfire. An ACTUAL SPITFIRE.
The icon of the skies, the Spitfires took their place in the annals of history during the Battle of Britain. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were statistically unlikely to win. But the plucky RAF pilots and their trusty Spitfires raced to victory, boosting the morale of the British people and seeing them through to the end of the war and victory.
And that is, beyond a doubt, the reason why the British have always had a close connection to Spitfires, from collecting and donating scrap metal and money in order to help build them, to watching fly pasts and shows which feature them.
And now you can own a cover that has actually felt the rumble of a Spitfire engine.
Flown by Flight Lieutenant Anthony Parkinson MBE, aboard Spitfire NH341 (which you can see in the picture), your cover was stowed in the wing bays which would have once held the plane’s armaments.
And what’s more, your cover combines UK RAF Centenary Hurricane Stamps, The Royal Mint’s brand new £2 Spitfire coin, and is postmarked on the anniversary of the Battle of Britain – the Spitfire’s most famous hour – the definitive Spitfire Commemorative.
Parky even let us add his facsimile signature to the product, a real honour indeed! Parky flew with the RAF for 34 years, piloting the Phantom, Tornado F-3, F-16 and Eurofighter Typhoon, as well as spending 4 years with the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Remember, just 1,000 covers have been flown, each of them featuring the facsimile signature of Parky and comprising Royal Mail stamps and Royal Mint coin – the most sought-after of all coin and stamp tributes.
