UK 2014 First World War Centenary Silver Proof £2
Limited to just 5,000 worldwide
To mark the centenary of the First World War, the Royal Mint have issued an unprecedented commemorative five-year £2 coin series, described as a journey from Outbreak through to Armistice.
The first coin issued in 2014 represents the Outbreak of war and the recruitment campaign which began in earnest in 1914. Many posters were used up and down the country, but it is the enduring image of Lord Kitchener's pointing finger and iconic call to arms: "Your Country Needs You" which still resonates with the British public 100 years later.
So much so in fact, that artist John Bergdahl chose it as the basis of his design for this 2014 First World War Anniversary Silver Proof £2 Coin. The flawless Proof finish with mirrored background and frosted detailing really highlights every detail of Lord Kitchener's striking pose.
The coin comes housed in a Royal Mint Presentation Case with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity to confirm the edition limit and metal content, and an informative booklet packed with information about the campaign led by Lord Kitchener.
