When it comes to the discovery of Dinosaurs, there is no fossil hunter quite as extraordinary as Mary Anning. An unsung hero at the time, her Early Jurassic discoveries along the Jurassic Coast have helped scientists identify and understand mighty creatures that once ruled the seas and skies.

Now, The Royal Mint has just confirmed the release of a BRAND NEW UK 50p series celebrating three of her greatest discoveries.

The FIRST reptile to feature in The Mary Anning Collection is the Temnodontosaurus – a marine predator that grew up to 12 metres and hunted the deep ocean millions of years ago.

The creature on this 50p has been designed by renowned British palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, with expert guidance by the Earth Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum.
