The armoured dinosaur, the Hylaeosaurus, was the third dinosaur to be discovered and described by Richard Owen in his ‘Dinosauria’ paper in 1842. 

And now, to celebrate the discovery of dinosaurs, the Royal Mint has authorised for a series of 50p coins to be released. The third 50p features the Hylaeosaurus dinosaur.

The creature on this 50p has been designed by renowned British palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, with expert guidance by the Earth Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum.
