Paddington has arrived!

Posted by Catherine Antignani on

Today you can be at the start of the next collecting phenomenon by becoming one of the first people in the world to secure the brand new UK 2018 Paddington™ 50p in Silver Proof quality.

The release was confirmed by Royal Proclamation back in February and has seen collectors itching to get their hands on one ever since.

The new 50p issues are reminiscent of the first Beatrix Potter coins release back in 2016. The Royal Mint created a collecting storm when the first Peter Rabbit Silver 50p sold out in just ONE day.

To give you an idea of how sought-after these coins are now, just head to eBay and search for the 2016 Peter Rabbit Silver Proof 50p. You'll find that the original selling price of £55 has increased more than 10 times!

What's more, even though the 2017 and 2018 Beatrix Potter coins have had doubled edition limits, it did not deter collectors as the sell-outs have continued

So, what does this mean for the new Paddington Bear 50p coins?

Well, collectors can look forward to this issue being equally collectable.

Issued to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Paddington Bear, it's the first time this “very British bear” has appeared on official UK coinageThere will also be a second Paddington Bear release available later in the year featuring Paddington outside Buckingham Palace.

Fans of Paddington have increased recently with two blockbuster movies grossing over £250 million at the cinema, so all of this means that we could have another sensational sell-out on our hands!

You still have a chance to secure the first Silver Proof 50p! Struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver to an immaculate Proof finish featuring a full colour image of Paddington wearing his famous blue duffle coat and battered old red bush hat at Paddington train station. Your coin will arrive ready to display in a Perspex presentation case.
